DPT Advising
A faculty adviser will be assigned to each student by the program director. A list of assignments will be distributed at the start of a student's first semester of enrollment. The adviser will monitor the student's portfolio development and assist the student with any problems affecting academic performance.
Students are encouraged to meet with their advisors throughout their academic program but are not required to meet at any one specific time during the semester. They are required to meet with their advisers twice during each of the first two years.
Advising within DPT program differs from traditional academic advising, in that course selection is not a major aspect of the advising process. Because of the nature of the professional curriculum, students have a choice only regarding which elective courses they may take throughout their tenure here. In the DPT program, it is the adviser's responsibility to guide students in the development of and evaluation of their advisee's portfolios.
Advising is one of the first opportunities for students to develop a professional relationship with a member of the faculty. It is part of the education that takes place outside the classroom, yet can enhance classroom education, and its benefits may last a lifetime.
