Research

UIC’s Department of Physical Therapy is dedicated to understanding the impairments underlying disability and on applications for practical clinical tactics. Our faculty are engaged in research projects that span a range of fields: pediatrics, geriatrics, biomechanics, neurological therapy, and orthopedics. We are also home to two active laboratories.

Recent Areas of Research
  • diagnosing delayed development in high-risk infants
  • falling mechanics and prevention
  • posture and movement control in the elderly
  • healthy lifestyle behaviors of people with disabilities
  • motor dysfunction following spinal cord injury and stroke
  • studying the factors affecting the OT & PT job market, including demand for and supply of occupational and physical therapy personnel view workforce report (.pdf)
