Please Note:  Following graduation a national examination is required to obtain initial certification with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Additional requirements may be mandatory by state regulatory boards to award licensure, certification or registration before practice is permitted within a particular jurisdiction.

Your ability to begin clinical/fieldwork, to be eligible to take the national certification examination and complete state licensure or registration processes for entry into practice may depend on your satisfying documentation of such things as drug screening, HIV testing, a background check for a history of criminal offenses, psychiatric illnesses and/or substance abuse.

Students must be aware that a felony conviction may negatively impact a students ability to obtain NBCOT certification and/or licensure or permission to practice in some states or jurisdictions.

Students that are concerned regarding the character review process by NBCOT may request an early determination review. Information on an early determination review may be obtained by contacting NBCOT at character.review@nbcot.org or (301) 990-7979.
