The biomedical visualization program at UIC's College of Applied Health Sciences is a national leader in educating medical artists. It is the only accredited program in the Midwest, and one of only a handful of such programs in the United States. UIC's program is also the largest in the nation in terms of enrollment and is the only one with a VRMedLab^SM (Virtual Reality in Medicine Laboratory).

What We Offer
UIC offers an MS in biomedical visualization. A master's degree is the foundational degree for the field, and graduates leave prepared for entry-level practice. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) in cooperation with the Association of Medical Illustrators (AMI) Accreditation Review Committee.

About the Profession
The study of biomedical visualization teaches graphic artists with an interest in physiology and anatomy how to translate knowledge of biological and medical sciences into visual communications. These skilled medical artists produce media based on direct observation and description of procedures, processes, and phenomena occurring in the arenas of biology, medicine, and surgery. Medical artists convey scientific information via a range of visual media - print, film, television, computer graphics, electronic imaging, exhibits, 3D models and prosthetics - all in the name of education, research, public relations, and patient care.
