Programs
UIC's Department of Biomedical and Health Information Sciences prepares
its students for rewarding careers in a variety of health care-related
fields and industries. We offer several degree and certificate options:
Biomedical Visualization: MS
UIC is a national leader in educating medical artists. Our master’s program teaches graphic artists with an interest in physiology and anatomy how to translate knowledge of biological and medical sciences into visual communications. We are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) in cooperation with the Association of Medical Illustrators (AMI) Accreditation Review Committee.
Health Informatics: Online MS & Certificate Programs
UIC offers three distinct online options for prospective students interested in advanced health informatics education: Online Master of Science in Health Informatics, Online IBHE Post-Master’s Certificate, and Online Post-Baccalaureate Certificate. Our health informatics program was the first in the country to focus on the social and organizational issues affecting information technology in health care.
Health Information Management: BS
HIM professionals are experts in managing patient health information and medical records, administering computer information systems, and coding the diagnoses and procedures for healthcare services provided to patients. Graduates of our program are eligible to register for the national Registered Health Information Administrators ( RHIA) credential examination offered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
