Largest donation to BVIS starts scholarship fund

The College of Applied Health Sciences announces the establishment of the Alice and Brian Katz Scholarship in Biomedical Visualization (BVIS). Alice and Brian’s gift is the largest in the 83-year history of the BVIS program. The gift will be used to fund scholarships for financially needy biomedical visualization graduate students. Alice Katz is the former director of the program.

“Hopefully the recipient would be a talented student who would add a lot to the class he or she is selected for,” Katz says. “You look for a good balance among a particular class, and it’s always nice to have some star who energizes the rest of the students.”

Katz was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Medical Illustrators last summer. She is a professor emeriti in the Biomedical Visualization program and an architect of the current curriculum.
