Welcome from Alumni Board Chair, Art Slowinski MVSC '94
Welcome to the second installment of @AHS! Commencement on May 5 was a huge success. I had the privilege of leading our students in the ceremonial tassel move to signify their new status as alumni. Other highlights included the keynote speech by Congressman Danny K. Davis and Outstanding Alumni Award recipient Lynn Gaudioso's (MLS '73) energetic address to the graduates. As always, please keep us informed of your news by emailing ahsalum@uic.edu. We enjoy reading about the successes of our alumni.

Support the Illinois Bill of Health
In an effort to prevent a critical future shortage of healthcare practitioners in Illinois, the University of Illinois at Chicago has announced the Illinois Bill of Health, a new statewide initiative aimed at ensuring access to medical care for the state.
The Illinois Bill of Health seeks a dedicated stream of state funding, supplementing the state's higher education budget, to help support the rising cost of medical and healthcare education and training and related patient care at public universities in the state.
UIC is joined in the initiative by Southern Illinois University, Chicago State University, and Northern Illinois University all public universities that share the mission of educating medical and other health professionals in Illinois. In addition, dozens of business, labor, civic and community leaders and hundreds of students, alumni and faculty members have voiced their support.
UIC's health sciences programs in Chicago began more than 100 years ago, and over the years the state has provided substantial support for the university's medical education and clinical services. UIC estimates its capital needs for renovating or replacing outdated facilities at several hundred million dollars, and recurring new operating needs at $30 million annually.
If you would like to add your support, please visit www.illinoisbillofhealth.org.
