Welcome from Alumni Board Chair, Art Slowinski, MVSC '94
I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday and New Year! The AHS Alumni Board met a couple of weeks ago to discuss our upcoming alumni event and we have decided to reunite and network at a local sporting event this summer. Details will be coming. Please do not hesitate to e-mail me at ahsalum@uic.edu with your programming ideas and good news – we really enjoy hearing from all of you.

Be on the lookout for the latest issue of AHS Magazine featuring many of our outstanding alumni. If you do not receive your copy in the mail, please let me know.

Alice and Brian Katz Establish Biomedical Visualization Scholarship
It is with great honor and pride that the College of Applied Health Sciences announces the establishment of the Alice and Brian Katz Scholarship in Biomedical Visualization (BVIS). Alice and Brian’s gift to BVIS is the largest in the 83-year history of the program and will be used to help students in the graduate program. Dr. Katz is the former director of the program.

Dr. Katz was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Medical Illustrators last summer. Dr. Katz is a Professor Emeriti to the Biomedical Visualization program and an architect of the current curriculum. The profession has seen UIC emerge as a unique leader under Dr. Katz’s careful direction, and her dedication is unequalled in the history of the dynamic curriculum.

Department Head Serves as Delegate to White House Conference on Aging
Disability and Human Development Department Head, Dr. Tamar Heller was appointed to serve as Senator Barack Obama’s delegate to The White House Conference on Aging (WHCoA) held December 12-14 in Washington D.C. The WHCoA occurs once a decade to make recommendations to the President and Congress to help guide national aging policies for the next ten years and beyond. Dr. Heller was successful in getting recommendations in support of aging caregivers for those with life-long disabilities into the final resolutions and strategies.
