Welcome from Dean Charlotte (Toby) Tate
Welcome to the AHS Alumni E-Newsletter! We are excited about this first issue. The e-newsletter (dubbed @AHS) is an important part of our communications plan designed to enrich the connections among the various constituents of the college. You will receive it six times a year arriving toward the end of the month. @AHS is designed to bring you the latest information about the college's alumni-related activities. Most importantly, the newsletter will give you a venue to share news and for you to remain in contact with your fellow alumni. So please send your good news to ahsalum@uic.edu.
We are pleased that 230 AHS students will be graduating this year and joining you as alumni. Congressman Danny K. Davis (7th District, Illinois) will be the 2005 distinguished speaker at our commencement ceremony taking place on May 5, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. in the UIC Pavilion. The AHS Outstanding Alumna is Lynn Gaudioso, Medical Lab Sciences '73. Wishing you all the best.

Human Nutrition Partners with Former Chicago Bear Otis Wilson
Seventeen seniors enrolled in the Human Nutrition bachelor of science degree program are teaming up with the Otis Wilson Foundation to teach and promote good eating habits to disadvantaged area kids who already participate in the foundation's physical fitness programs. Wilson, alias the "Junk Yard Dog," was a star linebacker with the Chicago Bears from 1980-1988 and played on the 1985 Super Bowl championship team. For the past 14 years, he has headed the non-profit foundation that promotes fitness among disadvantaged youth in the Chicago area.
Human Nutrition students have fanned out to 16 junior high or middle schools in the western suburbs of Bellwood, Berkeley, Maywood and Melrose Park to provide a series of 50-minute talks on the importance of good nutrition.
Starting this summer, Human Nutrition students will be working with Chicago high school youths in a more intensive three-days-a-week program.
