AHS presents "Latino Health: The Role of the UIC JACSW Midwestern Latino Health Research, Training and Policy Center"

Aida Giachello, UIC associate professor and director of the
Midwest Latino Health Research, is the guest speaker. The event is hosted by the Urban Allied Health Academy at the College of Applied Health Sciences as part of its 2007 Seminar Series.

This event is free and open to the public. A light lunch will be served.

About the Speaker
In 1993, Aida Giachello established the UIC JACSW Midwest Latino Health Research, Training and Policy Center, where she has been conducting research on health disparities, training Latino/minority investigators and engaging in policy work emerging from the research findings. Currently, she conducts research and trains professionals and community health workers across the Unites States, Puerto Rico, South America, and Mexico.

In addition to Giachello’s research background, she has been trained as a community organizer, and advocates on behalf of racial and ethnic minorities, women as a group, the poor and the elderly. Her UIC JACSW research center follows community participatory action research and empowerment models to address social justice issues. Nationally recognized for her work addressing health disparities, Giachello serves on numerous local and national boards and committees, and consults with health providers in public and private sectors.
