Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, author of My Stroke of Insight, provides further insight March 4

Jill Bolte TaylorAHS’ 2009 Ruth French Distinguished Lecturer in Health is Jill Bolte Taylor, PhD, a trained and published neuroanatomist. As irony would have it, on December 10, 1996, Dr. Taylor woke up to discover that she was experiencing a rare form of stroke. It took eight years for her to successfully rebuild her brain—from the inside out.

Dr. Taylor published My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist's Personal Journey, a memoir of her recovery and the insights she gained into the workings of her brain.

On March 4, Dr. Taylor will deliver more insight with her presentation, "How to get your brain to do what you want it to do."

In 2008, TIME magazine chose Dr. Taylor as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World, and she was the premiere guest on Oprah’s Soul Series webcast as well as The Oprah Winfrey Show in October 2008.

Dr. Taylor travels as national spokesperson for the mentally ill for the "Harvard Brain Bank," and currently serves as president of the Greater Bloomington (Ind.) Affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
