AHS Magazine out now
AHS Magazine has been reincarnated, mailed on April 7 to all alumni, friends and donors in our records. The issue features lots of "news briefs" as well as two feature stories:
- The Breast Cancer 3-Day is among the most recognizable fundraising events in the nation. For the walk in Chicago in 2008, the nonprofit organization teamed up with our Department of Disability and Human Development to make the walk more accessible to people of all abilities.
- Four students in our doctorate in occupational therapy (OTD) program took the practicum experience to new heights by traveling to Lima, Peru, to work with disadvantaged families in a world-renowned school and research center. (preview the story here)
Plus, you'll find our Honor Roll of Donors and stories of two donors in particular who've made a substantial difference to the college in the past year. And you'll get up-to-date stats on our student body.
All this and more, in your mailbox by mid-April.*
* If you do not receive the issue by mail, that means we do not have an accurate mailing address on file for you. We can fix that with the click of a keyboard. Just e-mail Helen Massey at hamassey@uic.edu with you updated information. And thanks.

Fulfill your need to understand obsession:
Professor of disability and human development Lennard Davis has published a new book that explores the medical, social and cultural roots of personality and its disorders. The Chicago Tribune named it one of the five best books by Chicagoans in 2008. Also, Davis is blogging on the subject as one of the newest additions to PsychologyToday.com. Something old, something new at 2008 Commencement
With this issue being the first since our last commencement ceremony, we took the chance to recap the ceremony celebrated last May. Some 265 undergraduate and graduate students earned degrees in 2008, and attendees at the ceremony heard UIC Provost Michael Tanner, commencement speaker and outgoing head of physical therapy Suzann Campbell DeLapp, and distinguished alumna Sandra Lerner.
