Human Nutrition students join Bears legend to teach kids healthy eating habits

Seventeen seniors enrolled in the Human Nutrition Bachelor of Science degree program are teaming up with the Otis Wilson Foundation to teach and promote good eating habits to disadvantaged area kids. The youths already participate in the foundation's physical fitness programs.

Wilson, alias the "Junk Yard Dog," was a star linebacker with the Chicago Bears from 1980-1988 and played on the 1985 Super Bowl championship team. For the past 14 years, he has headed the non-profit foundation that promotes fitness among disadvantaged youth in the Chicago area.

Human Nutrition students provide a series of 50-minute talks on the importance of good nutrition, including tips on healthy snacks and what foods to avoid.

Initially started at 16 junior high and middle schools in the western suburbs of Bellwood, Berkeley, Maywood and Melrose Park, the program has recently expanded to Chicago.
